Looking Forward to Tomorrow's Good News Roundup

Since November, I have been more optimistic about the future of this country than at any time since Drumpf’s “election.” Democrats took back the House in a huge wave, despite losing a few more Senate seats and some heartbreaker election losses in GA, FL, TX, and MS. We picked up 7 governorships—short of the 10 I predicted, but still good, including an amazing victory in KS and cheerfully chucking Scott Walker out in WI.  We have been getting good news from Mueller. Speaker Pelosi pwn’d Drump over the shutdown with not a dime for his stupid and immoral border wall. Momentum is growing for taxing the rich, Medicare for All, a Green New Deal and more.

I have even seen a silver lining to the horrible cloud of Drumpf’s bull-in-china-shop approach to bringing home our troops from the Middle East. Namely, everything is going to go to hell WHENEVER we leave, no matter how we do it. The only thing the intelligence and military establishments have been able to offer for going on 20 years now is permanent occupation. So, I thought, if Drumpf pulls us out, at least we’ll be out and the horrible mess will be blamed on him—not on whatever Democratic POTUS is in office in 2021. It’s a terrible calculation, but unending war is no answer.

So, I have been as close to cheerful lately as it’s possible to be with a Russian puppet in the White House and both the planet and our republic under full and grave assault.  I could see light at the end of the tunnel.

Then Drumpf withdraws from the INF, probably starting a new nuclear arms race.

Then the Northam mess blew up—and gets weirder and more horrifying by the minute.  Now there’s sexual assault allegations against Lt. Gov. Fairfax.  Everything good planned for VA this year is at risk and so is the 2020 election if VA is lost.

The govt. is giving up reuniting families with the children they stole.

In a move likely to be copied by others. POTUS candidate and Sen. Cory Booker is against removal of the legislative filibuster, meaning that even if Dems take the White House and both chambers of Congress in 2020, all hope for truly transformative progressive legislation is doomed because the odds against Democrats gaining a filibuster-proof majority in the Senate are extremely low.

So, now, I really, really, REALLY need to see tomorrow’s Good News Round-up. I’m watching that light at the end of the tunnel appear to go out.

This has to be a bad dream and I really need to wake up, now.
